Arcadia Opera House History:

The building now houses "The Shops Upstairs" which is a antique mall. The building was built in 1906 by John J. Heard, the rooms upstairs surrounding the theater were rented out to help business owners get back on their feet and to continue to supply services to the residents of the county for business who were lost in the 1905 fire. The auditorium was used for many things including churches, dances, traveling shows, agricultural storage, political meetings, movie theater and the local USO. It was also used for graduation ceremonies, black face comedians, vaudeville, silent movies and talkies.
Previous businesses on the first floor of the building were originally the Heard's Florida Loan and Trust Company, then it became the Dozier's Department store and later Eaton's Department Store. Presently Isabelle's antique store is there.

Personal Experiences:
* 8:50pm Group 4- Toni's digital recorder turned on by itself and Meredith's recorder also turned on by itself approximately 5 minutes before.
* 8:54 pm Group 4- Toni smelled a strong floral smell back by the dressing rooms.
* 8:59pm Group 4- Mike announced that he saw someone watching us off stage near the “dressing” rooms. He described the person as a tall, dark shadow and the person was leaning against the wall. Then it moved out of his sight. Investigator Toni and Mike exited the stage to investigate the dressing room area but no one was there.
* 9:02 Group 4- Vicki, who had been sitting down on stage, stood up and reported that her hair had been “tugged” she sat back down and stood up again to see if her hair was being caught on the rope barrier behind her. As Vicki stood up the second time she announced her hair had been tugged again. Meredith, watched as Vicki stood back up and reported that Vicki’s hair was not close enough to the rope for the rope to have caused the sensation.
* 9:25 Group 4- Group claims that the air got extremely hot on stage.
* Group 4- They entered the two dressing rooms and all felt uncomfortable and nervous. They all then reported smelling the scent of bubble gum. As the smell disappeared, the group followed trying to determine the source. The smell then changed into a lemon smell and seemed to follow the group as well as retreat from the group. The smell was followed from room to room for about 15 minutes before disappearing completely into the auditorium.
* 9:37 Group 3- Group enters room next to the bathroom and saw a price tag swinging erratically. They tried to block any air flow and recreate motion with no change in results. They then tried to communicate and would get results with the tag moving faster. After a couple of minutes it then stopped and communication ended.
* 10:16pm Group 3- Thomas was in the back hallway at the entrance to the auditorium when he saw a dark shadow of a person on stage left. It was so dark that it blocked out the light coming through the stage window.
* 11:00pm The camera that was set up in the auditorium captured the sound of water dripping. It dripped every 20 to 21 seconds. It stopped after 18 minutes. At 11:28 it started again, but only dripped twice. It was not heard any more that evening. We are still unsure of what this could have been. It's possible it was a residual sound from the past.

Evidence:

* 8:12am This sound was caught in the auditorium. It is thought to be a cat or the cry of a baby.

* 8:30am This sound was caught in the auditorium. Again it is thought to be a cat or the cry of a baby. This is the second time this evening.

* 8:42pm This sound was caught in the long hallway and it sounds like a man saying "Help me"

* 9:55pm In the long hallway a very loud "UMM" was heard right next to the camera and then a quieter "UMM" towards the end of the video in the same voice. No one was near the camera at this time.

* 12:53am Voice captured in the auditorium. There are 3 words being said. We can not figure out the first and probably the most important word. The Spirit voice you will hear says "_____ killed Michael".

* 12:53am Sixteen seconds after the last EVP we captured a voice that says "Help him".

Veranda House History:

The Veranda house was built in 1914 and was originally called the Poinsettia Apartments. It is still in it's original form with the 8 original apartments still being rented out.

History of Haunting:

* The only thing that has been reported is an uncomfortable feeling in the basement.

Meter Readings Temp - 86 EMF - none

Personal Experiences:
* Several members of groups reported feeling cool air moving around the room. It was pointed out that there was a hole in the wall that would allow air to move in and out.

Evidence:

* At this time we have no hard evidence to report from this location.

Personal Experiences:
* Initial walk through- Meredith's video camera drained from a full charge to zero. Teri's (guest) camera flash stopped working and the tri-field meter was spike at the highest milligauss at the top of the stairs. Sprout also got a spike of 3 milligauss in the far back room which could not be recreated all evening.
* 7:50 pm Initial walk through- Scott (guest) reports that in the 3rd room from the end of the hall he had an oppressive feeling when he entered the room.
* 8:15pm Lori had pain in her right temple and felt dizzy as soon as she walked over the threshold in the front room with the sink.
* 9:45 Group 2- A guest's camera would not take pictures until they moved to the outside of the building.
* 9:30 approx Group 2- Tom was recreating a game of hide and seek that Craig had played earlier with a Spirit thought to be a little girl. Tom and his group was in the 3rd room from right. He left the group and went into the 4th rooms closet. He then saw a little orb flash in front of him in the dark. He then called his group and asked them to take pictures In the flash of the cameras he saw a man standing in the corner closest to the doorway. The man reminded him of a cross between actors Jim Belushi and Jack Black. He had long side burns and kinda bald on top with some black hair. He was short and stocky wearing a dark suit jacket with a white shirt and what seemed like a untied bowtie.
* 9:50 Group 2- The group claims to have seen shadows in the 3rd and 4th room. They also felt the room get cooler.
* Group 4-There was a few reports of it being hard to breath with the air being thick and heavy.
* Group 4-Teri (guest)reported that she felt like she would see a big man in front of her every time she took a picture with flash.
* Group 4-Diana and Teri (guest) both felt someone was watching them from another room.
* Group 4-Mike, Vicki and Meredith (guest) felt like they were chased by something unseen.
* 8:00pm-9:00pm Group 3- Thomas (guest) is a psychic a felt that there is a very dominant male energy and a little girl. The Spirit were following them around the rooms. Thomas also saw something run past the doorway in the room to the far back end.
* Group 4- Again Teri had a spike on stairs with the trifield meter. The batteries were then found to be drained. It was later given to Scott and he found it to work fine.
* Group 4- One of the girls in Toni's group saw a shadow above Lori's head. Shortly after she had the impression that the little girl was not supposed to be in this side of the building -- she was only allowed in the front areas of the building.

Evidence:

* A full system was not set up, so at this time we have no hard evidence to report from this location. Do to the interesting personal experiences we would like to return and do a full investigation.

The “Tree of Knowledge” was planted in 1889 to celebrate births in the R.E. Whidden and S.J. Carlton families. In 1900, benches were placed underneath and it became the new gathering place for the town. When the tree died in 1938, it was cut down and a new one was planted.

We had heard rumors of the tree being the original hanging tree but questioned the fact that it was to far from the courthouse and original jail. The group tried photography and EVP sessions with no results. The psychics that were present also did not receive any negative impressions. After more research we believe that there were no hangings in this location.
